You belong in the forest

No matter who you are, you belong in the forest.

We are all human animals. We are a part of nature — not apart from it. We belong in the forest as much as the deer or the squirrels, the oaks and the ivy.

Human beings are not unnatural intruders in natural places. We are natural beings in our natural habitat. Our children deserve to grow up playing among the trees, just as they have for hundreds of thousands of years.

Even if you’re not “outdoorsy” and you don’t own rain pants… You belong.

Whatever age you are… You belong.

If you’re neurodivergent, have a disability, or have any other difference… You belong.

No matter what language you speak… You belong.

Wherever you come from… You belong.

At Valleyfield Joue Dehors, my goal is the make the forest accessible for everyone. That includes you. Whoever you are.

This is not my ancestral land. My roots are European. I am new to this space and I cannot welcome you to it specifically. I can only welcome you to nature in general, while striving to honor and learn from the ancestral caretakers of this land.

My promise to you is to demystify the forest. It is not a scary place. It is not untouchable. It is not for “other people”. It is for you. It is your home.

Let’s go home together.

Contact me at [email protected] for any accomodations or support you need. I mean that.
